The preamble of The Constitution is the single statement that frames our republic form of government in these United States. That republic is then detailed in the Articles of the Constitution. Our government’s responsibilities are defined in Article IV, Section 4 which states, “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened), against domestic Violence.”
It is important to understand, our representative form of government is not established to empower people who tell us what we should do or the type of society we should have. Our republic is established to protect our rights as states and in later amendments, specifically The Bill of Rights, as individuals.
Representatives who want to tell us that we should adopt socialism as our form of government are simply un-American.
Those representatives do not understand their jobs, The Constitution of the United States, or how America was defined. Those representatives are not protecting our rights, but in fact are subverting our rights and acting just like the overbearing monarchical government our founders fought to drive from our lands and shores. Those representatives should take some time to study how America was founded so they can better execute their jobs. Instead, the current movement in America is that a tiny group of neophyte representatives are trying to impose their will on America. That action is the most un-American act imaginable. America is about freedom. America is about government by the People.
Other representatives believe their sole responsibility is to investigate the executive branch. While “The House of Representatives . . . shall have the sole Power of Impeachment,” recently, it seems some representatives have forgotten this is not their only responsibility. Yet others, who are not directly assigned to a committee with investigative power spend their time voicing their disapproval of other branches or government or member of the House and Senate.
How are those actions aligned with the responsibility to represent the “People of the United States” by wielding the People’s “legislative Powers?” In short, it’s not. While each branch of government is there to enable cross-checking of actions and authority, the House of Representatives primary job is to represent the People who form the government. It seems many members have forgotten that responsibility. It also seems many have forgotten some of the People they represent.
Congressional districts consist of Democrats, Republicans, Peace and Freedom Party members, Libertarians, Independents, and even more constituents who should be represented by a member of the House of Representatives. Yet, lately, it seems representatives only represent the portion of their district who are aligned with that representative’s party. What about the rest of the constituency?
I suggest every American go to the U.S. Congress website, find your representative’s website and contact information, and get to know what your representative is doing. Also, let your representative know how you feel about issues. While your representative most likely will not read your specific note because they receive so many, your note will be reviewed by a staff member and information passed along to the representative. This is how our government is supposed to work. The Members of the House represent the will of the People, not their own will or the will of their party.

Does your representative author new bills to protect your rights? Does your representative spend all her or his time involved with committee proceedings? Does your representative support your ideas, or does your representative have such a deep partisan bias that she or he doesn’t even represent your concerns? Many representatives are significantly biased which means they don’t even represent all their constituents. Every American needs to know their representative and tell their representative how they expect that representative to wield the power of The People.
That is what makes America Great!
