The Rational Pelosi

Nancy Pelosi is a pro at rationalizing her bad behavior. She routinely says things that demonstrate one belief, then when called out for her words, she has canned methods to rationalize her bad behavior. Her most recent canned method is to say she did it to protect the downtrodden. Her rationalization doesn’t pass the sniff test! She did it this week on Fox News Sunday. She rationalized her own lack of taking the coronavirus seriously on February 24th saying she was protecting the Asian-American community.

She told people, “Precautions have been taken by our city [San Francisco]. We know that there is concern surrounding tourism, traveling all throughout the world, but we think it’s very safe to be in Chinatown and hope that others will come. It’s lovely here. The food is delicious, the shops are prospering, the parade was great. Walking tours continue. Please come and visit and enjoy Chinatown.”

Let’s examine her statement.

Invitation: “. . . we think it’s very safe to be in Chinatown and hope that others will come.

Double Down: “. . . Please come and visit and enjoy Chinatown.”

She negates the concern of tourism and travel when she says, “but we think it’s very safe to be in Chinatown and hope that others will come.” She invited people to come to Chinatown. Less than a month later on March 19th, Gavin Newsom issued a stay at home order for the state of California.

On Fox News Sunday, she rationalized that her statement was meant “to end the discrimination, the stigma, that was going out against the Asian-American community.”

That makes sense; to fight irrational discrimination and stigmatizing, and while taking the coronavirus pandemic seriously, invite people to mingle in public!

Pelosi is lying to herself and the American people, or . . . she honestly believed that while the risk of the coronavirus was very serious, people should risk their health to show support for the Asian-American community.

So which is it? Pelosi knew the risk of the coronavirus and invited people to Chinatown anyway? or she brushed off the seriousness of the coronavirus and invited people to Chinatown?

I’m going with the latter. Think about it, she can’t be right on both counts.
